This episode occurs within the longer narrative Ynglinga saga, in which Njörðr is a ruler in Uppsala. The saga is the first in the collection of kings’ sagas known as Heimskringla, which was probably composed and compiled by the 13th-century Icelandic scholar Snorri Sturluson.
